ooc ANNOUNCEMENTS
October 2, 2009: Due to the all around inactiveness of this site, I have made the administrative dessition to revamp this site. From now on, this site plays within the time after the five weyrs went ahead in time with lessa. Benden weyr is the sole weyr and for the moment, Fort Hold is the only played hold. To all those from the Weyr Behind site, welcome. A special note to Weyr Behind members, just crate an acount and post your bios from Weyr Behind into the accepted bio page. New profiles have to be accepted though.

September 2, 2008: To explain the missing/deleted characters, we've decided to stage a plague. Exact details of the sickness have not yet been discussed, but expect the usual: fever, cough, nausea, etc. All characters that are up for adoption are considered still sick. Please be sure to allude to the plague in future posts.

September 1, 2008: All accounts that did not claim their characters have been deleted. After an unanimous vote, we are only going to have ONE ACCOUNT for ALL CHARACTERS. Please consolidate all your characters and delete any extraneous accounts in a timely fashion. You must list your characters in your signature. Finally, we need to start advertising!

August 4, 2008: Just letting everyone know officially that there has been about a one-two Turn time jump. All weyrlings are now dragonriders and their dragons are fully matured, except for the queen, who reaches maturity later. I'm still working out to explain the characters that haven't been reclaimed. A plague? Several training accidents? PM me if you have any ideas.

August 1, 2008: The Grand Opening of Rugged v.2! There are two important threads to pay attention to: the new activity check and the survey.

He smiled, pulled on his pants from the day before and left barefooted with her hand wrapped around his elbow. He took a second to look at the two dragons and smiled to also see them snuggling as they slept, yes they seemed happy with their choice as was he. "I believe my dear Ria that we will need to hold a meeting with the whole weyr and possibly the lord holder and discuss what needs to be done. No dear you made a fine weyrleader and did the best you could." He said as he paused their walk and leaned down to kiss her. After they kissed and resumed walking he continued to grin. "Yes I believe you will make a fine weyrwoman and weyrmate. They reached his room and he grabbed a bag from under the bed and began to fill it with clothes. He set a pair of pants, a tunic, and a pair of boots off to the side. They were not the best he owned, but certainly weren't the worst. the pants were a natural tan color, the tunic was a bright red and the boots were a darker tan, yes that outfit would work for the day. "Also I have to make my new knots at some point."...

 Sinowa Weyr

Sinowa

A plague is what caused everything. It lasted only two and half short Turns, and still nearly killed all life on Pern. Or all life that stood between humanity and utter annihilation.

The Holds were untouched; only the Weyrs suffered loss. Dragons started coughing and riders started to weaken and tire easily. The riders, remembering history, remembering and fearing, quarantined themselves, breaking all contact with the Holds to prevent the spread. At least the people would continue existing, new Candidates would stand ready to replenish the Weyrs once the threat had passed. They would overcome and triumph.

And then the dragons began dying in their sleep and the riders followed after. To the horror of all, Queens were affected the most severely, dying the fastest, especially those close to clutching. Despair ran rampant; without their Queens, the dragons had no hope of continuation. There would be none to replace those already lost.

When it was almost too late, the remaining riders whom the plague had not yet infected set out and found a lonely Weyr far from the sickness, neither in the North nor the South. The sick were left to die; there was no way to stop this invisible menace, to prevent the inevitable. Only a handful had hope; a pair of grown Queens, seven bronzes, eleven browns, twenty-four blues, and forty greens, plus a weyrling Queen, hatched just before the plague struck, the last of her siblings to survive the onslaught. The last real hope for Pern's survival.

While the riders waited for the inevitable to happen, for the sickness to run out of flesh to feed on, they lasted through harsh winters and blazing summers. For two Turns, they waited, their despair growing. Thread was due to return in the next Turn or two; would they be safe to leave their haven when it did? Finally, the remaining dragons stopped keening for lost brethren, for there was none left to keen for. The plague had finally claimed the last life it had access to and now laid dormant, unable to infect anything else. Those left could return home.

Yet, the only thing left of what once had been were the empty Weyrs and a few bodies that had yet to be devoured by wild animals. The sickness could then only be contracted by touching the dead with bare flesh; too cautious and too fearful, the last riders did the only thing they could do -- burn the bodies where they lay and scatter the ashes between, where the fatal disease would be lost forevermore.

The riders spread out, forming three new Weyrs. One of the adult Queens took to the North, taking with her two bronzes, five of the browns, nine blues, and fourteen greens. Some stayed at the only home they had had for the past two Turns, the haven-Weyr, Sinowa. Here the weyrling Queen, now in her second Turn, took up the mantle of Senior Queen, keeping with her three bronzes, three browns, four blues and four greens. The last Queen, old and egg-heavy for the last time led her fair down to the warmth of the Southern Continent, too tired to deal with more cold and harshness. In their hearts the dragons and riders carried the memory of those lost, and in their blood they carried the vaccine that the Weyr Healers had dedicated most of their time in solitude creating. Even if the plague had escaped complete eradication, it would never again harm Pern's defenders. Nothing of its menace would ever again threaten the future of the planet...

...No one ever stopped to consider the side-effects.

Ria looked up from tightening her belt as she spoke of going out. Her hair was relatively dry, dry enough not to drip or chill her head in the fog. Quickly she clipped it back from her face, slipped on her slippers and walked over to where he stood. Slideing her had around his elbow she smiled at him, "I would go farther than your weyr right now." It was nice not to have to crain her kneck to look at him. As they set off out the tunnel, Ria crained her head to see the dragons. Were they lying in the same mannor that their riders had been earlier? She smiled as she saw that they were indead in a sleeping embrase. Thinking about the day ahead, she asked, "S'nar, what are we going to do today? I fear that I made a horable weyrleader, where I think I make and acceptable weyrwoman."

 On Dragon Wings
« Result #4 on Dec 10, 2009, 3:08pm »

Black, blacker, blackest,
And cold beyond frozen things.
Where is between when there is naught
To Life but fragile dragon wings?

Turn 499 of the Interval. The Red Star glimmers in the morning sky. The two remaining Weyrs struggle with a surge in dragon population. People whisper, murmur, wonder: are the rumors true? Is Thread coming back? After nearly 500 years of Interval, people aren't ready to accept the possibility that a Pass looms just around the corner; even dragonriders argue among themselves about whether or not that winking red menace really portends a Pass, and the Holders and Crafters certainly aren't ready to accept the likelihood.

This is the stage set for the opening of On Dragon Wings. We're an alternate universe game set at the end of the Eighth Interval, with the action centered on Fort Weyr. During the course of the long Interval, with dragon numbers dwindled to an all time low, the Weyrs elected to downsize, leaving only Ista and Fort Weyrs populated. Now, with the dragon population on the upswing again, the necessity of reopening the abandoned Weyrs is undeniable, but the question of Thread is not so easily answered.

As of early December 2009, we're looking to fill a lot of roles with our game ready to open. There are positions available for goldriders, Wingleaders, a Weyrlingmaster, a Headwoman, and lots more. Our hope is to provide a plot-intensive environment where people can explore their characters against a setting with conflict and momentum.

 Advertising Your Weyr

A little bird told me that someone had a Weyr around here! Since I’ve heard the news, I’ve seen searching high and low every day, and finally, I, AYW, am here. I want to make this my home, and I would like you to feel that my place is your home too. So why don’t you come on over and pay us a visit. We have many teas and drinks, various combinations of snacks, and we always have a friendly smile. Pay us a visit, I guarantee that there are enough couches!
--------------------------------------

What is AYW?
AYW is a new advertisement site for Weyrs. It began on MSN Groups, and since its closure, two people decided to begin it again on invisionfree. It is a site that welcome Weyrs of any type being run on any domain or forum.

More than just an advertisement site, we would like AYW to be a place where members of Weyrs can come together and just have a good time, play games, and meet new people. We would like to have a place where people aren’t afraid to exchange ideas or give and receive opinions on any subjects involving Weyrs, characters, and plots all in a positive attitude. It is going to be a place where role-players new and old will be able to come in and talk. In addition, we want to offer a place where role-players wanting to create their first Weyrs (or any Weyr) can come in and ask questions to get ideas and to get started, and where people will answer back earnestly.

All this to say: we want to be a community.

How can I help out?
Spread the word. The best way to help us out at the moment is to tell other people about us and getting as many Weyrs on our site as possible.

You can help out just by joining, you don’t need to be the admin of a Weyr in order to participate on this site. We just want this to be a hangout community that any DRoP RPer (new and old) can join in. It’s also easier to find Weyrs that suit your taste when you’ve already spoken to a few people in them.

Really, communication is optional. You can help by bookmarking the site alone, and popping in every now and again!

He watched her throw her stuff across the room and he went after he's and couldn't find his, and then he remebered at he hadn't moved his stuff into her weyr yet. So he grabbed his clothes from the day before and then he looked behind him and saw the wet foot prints. "Opps. I left wet footprints and then my clothes and everything of mine ar still in my weyr and I don't think my lazy dragin is getting up any time soon." he said as he looked out at the sleep hulk of two dragons. he thought about just yelling for some drudges, but instead "I'm going to walk to my weyr and get some of my things, you are welcome to join me if you'd like"...

Ria reveled in the embrace and sank into the warmth of his arms. As he bacame solomn she felt sad that she had made him sad asking about his parents. She had been fortunate to know who was her parents. As he crawled out of the bath, she stood for a moment and looked up at him. How could she have been so lucky to have such a wonderful weyrmate. Instead of crawling over the side of the bath like he had, she walked around to the shallow side of the bathing pool and just stepped over the low edge. Dripping water on the cold stone floor, she walked quick, her feet chilling every moment that they touched the floor. Snatching up the bathing cloth from beside his, she smiled back at him as she scampered ahead into the sleeping room and onto the thick wool carpet. As she scrubbed her curls, she started pulling out cloths. She tossed her long heavy blue skirt across the sleeping room so that it landed on the bed. Her burgandy tunic followed as did the belt. She smiled at S'nar as she walked over and started dressing for the day. What would they have planned for today? Goodness, she had gone too long without a weyrleader and had never really had a true Weyrmate. What were they supposed to do as weyrmates and the weyr's leaders?
